Akae

Miyazaki City is a port town centered around Jogasaki on the right bank of the Oyodo River estuary. Formerly Akae Town. During the Edo period, it was part of the Obi Domain and traded with Sakai, with Senkoku ships coming and going. From the Meiji period until the Taisho period, it was the largest river port in the prefecture. It was connected to Takaoka inland by boat traffic on the Oyodo River. Today, it no longer functions as a port, and only traces of its past remain in the houses.

宮崎市、大淀川(おおよどがわ)河口右岸の城ヶ崎(じょうがさき)を中心とする港町。旧赤江町。江戸時代は飫肥(おび)藩領で、堺(さかい)と交易し千石船が出入りした。明治以降、大正年間までは県下最大の河港であった。大淀川舟運で内陸部の高岡と結んだ。現在は港の機能を失い、家屋に当時のおもかげを残すのみである。
