[Died] August 22, 1890. Mircesci. Romanian playwright and poet. Born into an aristocratic family, he studied in Paris for six years. After returning to Romania, he published poetry and collected Romanian folk songs. He played a central role in the 1848 revolution, and after the defeat of the revolution, he went into exile in Western Europe for a time. He was later appointed director of the National Theatre in Iasi, and published many satirical comedies, contributing to the development of Romanian national theater. He also won the respect of the Romanian people as a patriotic poet for his collection of poems Doine şi lǎcrimioare (1853) (Elegy and Lily of the Valley), his poem Pasteluri (Pastel Paintings) about the Moldova landscape, and other works. He is also famous for his novel Istoria unui galben (44) and his comedy Iaşii în carnaval (52).

ルーマニアの劇作家，詩人。貴族の出身で，パリに6年間留学，帰国後詩を発表するとともにルーマニア民謡を集めて発行した。 1848年の革命に中心的指導者として活躍，革命の敗北後一時西ヨーロッパに亡命。その後ヤシの国民劇場の支配人に任命され，多くの風刺的喜劇を発表，ルーマニア民族演劇の発展に尽した。また詩集『悲歌とすずらん』 Doine şi lǎcrimioare (1853) やモルドバの風景をうたった詩『パステル画』 Pasteluriその他によってロマン派の愛国詩人として国民の敬愛を集めた。小説『一枚の金貨の物語』 Istoria unui galben (44) ，喜劇『ヤシのカーニバル』 Iaşii în carnaval (52) も有名。
