Also known as the African golden cat or Kin-iro Neko, this medium-sized carnivorous mammal of the Felidae family has rounded ears, white undersides, and a pointed tail. It lives in the forests of tropical Africa (from Gambia to western Kenya). It is 70-95 cm long, 28-45 cm long, and weighs 8-16 kg. It has a sturdy body with a thick snout, short ears with rounded tips, and a black back. Its limbs are relatively short and thick. Its tail is less than half the length of its body, has a pointed tip, and is white underside with no markings. Its fur is short. Its fur color is extremely variable, ranging from silvery gray to black, but is usually dark brown or reddish brown, with some having round dark spots and others being almost spotless. アフリカゴールデンキャット,キンイロネコともいう。耳介が丸く,下面が白く先がとがった尾をもつ中型の食肉目ネコ科の哺乳類。熱帯アフリカ(ガンビアからケニア西部まで)の森林にすむ。体長70~95cm,尾長28~45cm,体重8~16kg。体はがんじょうで吻(ふん)が太く,耳介は短くて先が丸く,後面は黒色。四肢は比較的短く太い。尾は体長の1/2以下で先がとがり,下面は白く斑紋がない。毛は短い。毛色はきわめて変化に富み,銀灰色から黒色まであるが,ふつうは暗褐色ないし赤褐色で,暗色の丸い斑点をもつものとほとんど無斑のものがある。
