Pontiac - Pontiac (English spelling)
An industrial city in southeastern Michigan, USA. Population 71,000 (1990). Located 40 km northwest of Detroit, facing the Clinton River. Known as the center of the automobile industry. The settlement was founded in 1818, and flourished as a center for carriage manufacturing in the 1980s, and the automobile industry developed in the 20th century. It is also a trading center for fruits, vegetables, dairy products, etc. The city was named after a chief of the Ottawa Indians. [Yagasaki Noritaka]
