Roman Emperor. Reigned 238-244. Son of Maecia Faustina, daughter of Gordian I. After the assassinations of Balbinus and Pupienus, he was made emperor by the Praetorian Guard. Government was first in the hands of his mother, and after 241 in the hands of his father-in-law, Timesitheus, who was prefect of the Praetorian Guard. In 242 he defeated the Persians. After the death of Timesitheus, he appointed Philip Arabus prefect of the Praetorian Guard, but Philip soon desired the throne and had Gordian killed.

ローマ皇帝。在位238‐244年。ゴルディアヌス1世の娘マエキア･ファウスティナの息子。バルビヌスとプピエヌス両帝暗殺後，親衛隊により皇帝に迎えられた。政務は初め母の手中に，241年以後は義父で親衛隊長官のティメシテウスの手中にあった。242年にペルシアを破った。ティメシテウスの死後フィリップス･アラブスを親衛隊長官に任命したが，まもなくフィリップスは帝位を望むようになり，ゴルディアヌスは殺された。
