The woman who assassinated JP Marat during the French Revolution. Born in Normandy as a descendant of Corneille, she was initially sympathetic to the French Revolution, but in 1793, the execution of the King and the expulsion of the Girondists made her doubt the progress of the Revolution, and she sympathized with the Girondists and aspired to assassinate Marat, the leader of the Reign of Terror. In July of the same year, she went to Paris and stabbed Marat to death while he was bathing at home. She was immediately arrested and executed in the same month. [Otsuka Tadamitsu]
