...He wrote over 200 screenplays in his lifetime, including works he directed himself. After the war, he began his career with "The Ronin Passes Through" (1947) and "The King" (1948), starring Bando Tsumasaburo. He also made a name for himself by turning Nakamura Kinnosuke (later Yorozuya Kinnosuke) from an idol star affectionately known as "Nishiki-chan" into a superstar with acting ability and dignity in "Rebellious Child" (1961). In his later years (especially after he moved away from films after "Bakumatsu" in 1970), he devoted himself to writing and directing stage plays, especially the stage adaptation of "Rebellious Child" starring Kinnosuke. ...

…Although they later reconciled, he was not well-liked in his later years. In 1980, after his death, he was posthumously awarded the titles of Meijin and Osho by the Japan Shogi Association in recognition of his skills. The following year, a monument was erected at Hattori Cemetery in Toyonaka, Osaka Prefecture.

...Bantsuma displayed his unique dignity and presence in films such as "The Ronin Passes By" (1947, directed by Ito Daisuke), and "Oboro Kago" and "Five Men of Oedo" (both 1951), directed by Ito Daisuke, which are impressive for their mature and experienced fight scenes, but it was his modern dramas that defined the human charm and image of the great actor Bantsuma in his later years, from "The Life of Muhomatsu" (1943), directed by Inagaki Hiroshi, which depicts the pure and innocent soul of an "ignorant" commoner (a rickshaw driver), to "Osho" (1948), directed by Ito Daisuke, which depicts the noble soul of an "uneducated and illiterate" student (Sakata Sankichi, an ignorant but good-natured man devoted to the game of shogi), to "Broken Drum" (1949), directed by Kinoshita Keisuke, which depicts the comedy of a "thunder father" who appears arrogant on the surface but is actually innocent and good-natured at heart. He died of illness at the age of 51.
