Koyori (paper string) - Koyori

Japanese:
Koyori (paper string) - Koyori
Washi paper is cut into strips and twisted. Some are further twisted together into two or three strands to make them stronger. It is also called kamihineri, kamiyori, or kanzeyori. By twisting short pieces of paper together, long strings of paper can be made. In ancient times, hemp thread was used to tie hair, but after washi paper began to be made in Japan in the 7th century, it seems that paper cords were used instead. This is the origin of the later motoyui. The word motoyui already appears in the Man'yoshu and Kokin Wakashu.
