Litmus paper

Litmus test paper is a test paper soaked in a litmus solution and dried, and is used to detect the acidity or alkalinity of a solution. There are two types, blue and red. The blue type is made by soaking it in an alcoholic litmus solution with a small amount of ammonia added, and the red type is made using a solution with hydrochloric acid added. The color change range is pH 4.5 to 8.3, and the accuracy is not very good. Acidic colors are red, and alkaline colors are blue. If red litmus paper is dipped in a solution and turns blue, the solution is alkaline, and if blue paper is dipped in it and turns red, the solution is acidic.

リトマス溶液を濾紙(ろし)にしみ込ませて乾燥した試験紙で、溶液の酸性、アルカリ性を検出するのに用いられる。青色と赤色の2種類ある。青色のものは、リトマスのアルコール溶液に少量のアンモニアを加えた溶液に浸し、赤色のものは塩酸を加えた溶液を用いてつくる。変色域はpH4.5～8.3で、精度はあまりよくない。酸性色は赤色、アルカリ性色は青色である。赤色のリトマス試験紙を溶液に浸して青色になればその溶液はアルカリ性であり、青色のものを浸して赤色になれば酸性である。
