1572-1662 Oda-Toyotomi - An ancient calligraphy appraiser from the early Edo period.
Born in 1600. The founder of the Kohitsu family. A fan of the tea ceremony and calligraphy, he studied waka poetry under Karasumaru Mitsuhiro. Following in the footsteps of Konoe Sakihisa, he made appraisal of old calligraphy, a profession which gained increasing popularity as the tea ceremony flourished. Toyotomi Hidetsugu bestowed upon him the surname Kohitsu and the seal of Kotoyama, which he passed down for generations. He passed away on January 28, 1662. He was 91 years old. He was from Omi (Shiga Prefecture). His surname was Hirazawa. His given name was Setsuse. He was commonly known as Yashiro. His other name was Shokakuan Oakwood.

元亀(げんき)3年生まれ。古筆家の祖。茶の湯,書にしたしみ,烏丸(からすまる)光広に和歌をまなぶ。茶道の隆盛とともに愛好者がふえた古筆の鑑定を近衛前久(さきひさ)にならい家業とした。豊臣秀次(ひでつぐ)から古筆の姓と琴山の印をあたえられ,代々つたえた。寛文2年1月28日死去。91歳。近江(おうみ)(滋賀県)出身。姓は平沢。名は節世。通称は弥四郎。別号に正覚庵櫟材。
