Meistergesang

...It is a term used to refer to poets and singers who played a key role in the literary and musical movement that flourished in medieval German cities. In Japan, it has been translated as "artisan poet," "artisan poet," or "famous singer," but recently it is often used in its original form. The term is based on Meistersang (or Meistergesang), or so-called artisan singing. In contrast to the Minnesang based on the knight class, the Meistersang was created with the rise of German cities by shoemakers, tailors, weavers, goldsmiths, and other artists who organized guilds and created a comprehensive art form that included writing poetry, composing music, and singing. There are various theories about its origin, but there is no doubt that artisan singing by guild organizations reached its heyday in southern Germany, such as Augsburg, Ulm, Strassburg (now Strasbourg), and Nuremberg, from the mid-15th century to the 16th century.

…ドイツの中世都市で盛んになった文芸･音楽運動を担った詩人･歌人の呼称で，日本では〈職匠歌人〉〈工匠歌人〉とか〈名歌手〉と訳されてきたが，最近では原語のまま使われることが多い。この語の基礎になっているマイスターザングMeistersang(またはマイスターゲザングMeistergesang)，いわゆる職匠歌は，騎士階級を基盤にしたミンネザングに対してドイツ諸都市の勃興を背景に，靴屋，仕立屋，織匠，金細工師等が組合を組織し，作詩，作曲，詠唱にわたる総合芸術としてつくりあげていったものである。その起源については諸説があるが，15世紀中ごろから16世紀に，組合組織による職匠歌がアウクスブルク，ウルム，シュトラスブルク(現，ストラスブール)，ニュルンベルク等の南部ドイツで全盛期を迎えたことは疑いがない。…
