The Japanese era name (nengo). It was the era name of Emperor Murakami from 947 to 957 during the Heian period. The previous era name was Tenkyo . The era name was Tentoku . The era name was changed on April 22, 947 (Tenkei 10). The era name was changed when Emperor Murakami ascended to the throne (the beginning of the era ). The name was taken from the Analects of Confucius. In 946 (Tenkei 9), Emperor Suzaku abdicated and Emperor Murakami, his younger brother by the same mother, ascended to the throne. Fujiwara Tadahira continued as Kanpaku Daijodaijin ( Chancellor ), but Emperor Murakami did not appoint a regent and ruled directly. However, in the following year, 947 (Tenryaku 1), Tadahira's eldest son, Fujiwara Saneyori , was appointed Minister of the Left, and his second son, Fujiwara Morosuke , was appointed Minister of the Right, and the Northern Fujiwara clan monopolized the Daijokan and strengthened their influence.
