A former town in Yamamoto County, northwest of Akita Prefecture. Its center is Kado, east of Lake Hachirogata, where the Ou Main Line runs. The fishing village character has faded due to the reclamation of Lake Hachirogata, and the Shinsei Ohashi Bridge, connecting the area to the central reclaimed land, has been completed. In addition to producing rice, the town also produces field crops and raises livestock. In March 2006, it merged with Yamamoto Town and Yatsuryu Town in Yamamoto County to become Mitane Town in Yamamoto County. 111.38 km2 . 6,291 people (2003).
