A type of cattle with a protuberance on the shoulder called the acromion. It is also called a zebu or a hogyuu. The shoulder hump is formed by the spinous processes of the thoracic vertebrae extending high and covered with rhomboid muscles. In well-nourished cattle, a large amount of fat is stored here. It is native to India, but is also widely distributed in Africa and Southeast Asia, and there are many breeds. In general, the skin of the chest and belly hangs loosely, and the ears are large and drooping. It is resistant to heat and is not susceptible to tropical endemic diseases. Representative breeds include the Kankrej, Ongole, Gir, Red Sindhi, and Sahiwal, which are native to India, the Arusi, and the African, which are native to Africa.

肩に肩峰という隆起のあるウシ。ゼビュー，犎牛（ほうぎゆう）とも呼ばれる。肩のこぶは胸椎の棘突起（きよくとつき）が高くのび，その上にひし形筋がかぶさったもので，栄養状態の良いものではここに多量の脂肪が蓄えられる。原産地はインドであるがアフリカ，東南アジアにも広く分布し，多くの品種がある。一般に胸や腹の皮膚がゆるく垂れ下がっており，耳も大きく垂れている。暑さに強く，熱帯性の風土病にもかかりにくい。代表的な品種にインド原産のカンクレージKankrej種，オンゴールOngole種，ギルGir種，レッド･シンディRed Sindhi種，サヒワールSahiwal種，アフリカ原産のアルシArusi種，アフリカンダーAfricander種などがある。
