A river in the central Deccan Plateau in India. It originates in the northern part of the Western Ghats, flows eastward, crosses the Indian peninsula, and empties into the Bay of Bengal in the northeastern part of Andhra Pradesh. It is about 1,450 km long. Its main tributaries are the Indravati and the Pranitha. Irrigation is provided at the delta at the mouth of the river, and a canal network has developed, connecting it to the Krishna River delta.
