Arab historian of the Mamluk period. Born in Cairo, he studied folklore and history under the contemporary writer Asqalani (1372-1449), then traveled to Syria from Mecca and Medina to study. After returning to the country, he was patronized by the Mamluk (slave soldier) official Yashbak and produced a vast body of work. His main works include "Made of Gold," which supplements Macrīzī's chronicle, "Shining Light," a vast dictionary of contemporary biographies, and "Book of Condemnation of Historians," which severely criticized religious studies.

マムルーク朝時代のアラブの歴史家。カイロに生まれ，当代の文人アスカラーニー‘Asqalānī(1372‐1449)について伝承学や歴史学を修めた後，メッカ，メディナからシリアに遊学，帰国後はマムルーク(奴隷軍人)の高官ヤシュバクの庇護を得て膨大な著作を残した。主著はマクリージーの年代記を補塡した《鋳造された黄金》，浩瀚（こうかん）な同時代の人名辞典《輝く光》，ほかに宗教諸学を厳しく批判した《歴史家批難弾劾の書》がある。
