Miron Costin

A Romanian chronicler of note. His major works include the Chronicle of Moldova after Aaron and the Chronicle of Moldova-Wallachia. He fled with his family to Podolia in Poland as a child, where he studied the classics at a Jesuit school. He returned to Poland around 1653 and served in the Ottoman Turkish army's campaign against Austria, and also served as a diplomatic envoy to Poland and Istanbul. He was personally pro-Polish and had a friendship with John III, the savior of Vienna. In his later years, he was caught up in a quarrel between nobles and was murdered.

ルーマニアの代表的な年代記作者。主著に《アロン公以後のモルドバ年代記》《モルドバ･ワラキア年代記》等がある。幼時家族とともにポーランド領ポドリアへ亡命し，同地のイエズス会の学校で古典を学んだ。1653年ころ帰国し，オスマン･トルコ軍の対オーストリア戦役に従軍し，また外交使節としてポーランドやイスタンブールへ赴いたが，彼個人は親ポーランド派でウィーン包囲の救世主ヤン3世とも親交があった。晩年は貴族間の内訌にまきこまれ殺害された。
