Costus (English spelling) spiral flag
It is a perennial plant of the Costus genus of the Zingiberaceae family, with 140 species found in tropical regions such as Central and South America and eastern India. The representative species of this family, C. speciosus (Koen.) Smith, is also known as Adonis japonica and is native to eastern India and Malaysia. The stems reach a height of 1-2m, branch well, and the leaves are somewhat fleshy, dark green, glossy, oblong, 15-20cm long. The flowers are white in spikes at the end of the stem, yellow in the center, and bright red in the bracts.
