いん【因】

〘名〙① 仏語。狭義には、結果をひきおこすための直接の内的原因。間接的原因である縁に対する。広義には、両者を合わせたものをいう。⇔果。※霊異記(810‐824)上「善悪因果経に云はく、過去の因を知らむと欲(おも)はば其の現在の果を見よ」 〔鄒陽‐獄中上書〕② 一般に、物事の起こるもと。原因。また、物事とのつながり。関係。※内地雑居未来之夢(1886)〈坪内逍遙〉一二「其仔細を知らずと雖も因あるままに斯くはしるしつ」③ インドの論理学、因明(いんみょう)でいう宗(しゅう)、因(いん)、喩(ゆ)の一つ。これから論証しようとする宗(命題)の理由を説明するもの。④ 和算で、一位の数を掛けること。また、その積に対して一位の数をいう。〔算法新書(1830)〕
