Yoshinaga Asano

Japanese: 浅野吉長 - あさのよしなが

1681-1752 A daimyo in the mid-Edo period.
Born July 1, 1676. The eldest son of Asano Tsunanaga. In 1702, he succeeded his father as the 5th lord of the Asano clan in the Aki Hiroshima domain. He removed the chief retainer from his position as steward and personally led reforms in the domain's government. He established a lecture hall and encouraged both the arts and martial arts, and is said to be the lord who revived the Hiroshima domain. He attempted to strengthen control over rural areas by abolishing the magistrate system and establishing a county office, but failed when a major uprising occurred in 1712. He died January 13, 1716. He was 72 years old.

延宝9年7月1日生まれ。浅野綱長の長男。宝永5年父の跡をつぎ,安芸(あき)広島藩主浅野家5代となる。家老を執政からはずし,みずから藩政改革を主導。講学館を設置して文武を奨励し,広島藩中興の藩主といわれる。代官制を廃止して郡役所をもうけるなど農村支配の強化をはかるが,享保(きょうほう)3年大一揆(いっき)がおこり,失敗した。宝暦2年1月13日死去。72歳。
