An insect of the order Isoptera and family Isoptidae. Males are either winged or wingless, with body lengths of 6.5-9 mm. All females are wingless and slightly larger. They are brown to blackish brown in color and slender, resembling termites. The head is flat and round, and the antennae are thread-like and thin, consisting of 17 segments. The pronotum is narrow, and the middle and metathorax are oval. The wings are light brown and opaque. The abdomen is slender and has two short tail hairs at the tip. The legs are short and have three segments. The first segment of the forelimb is swollen, and a spinning gland has developed here that secretes a silk-like substance.
