?-1623 A Dutch trader. In 1600 (Keicho 5), he was shipwrecked at Sashio in Bungo Province on the Dutch ship Liefde. Like the ship's navigator W. Adams (Miura Anjin), he was given a house in Edo by Tokugawa Ieyasu. It is said that the name Yaesu is derived from his name. Between 1602 and 1621 (Keicho 17-Genna 7), he obtained a red seal letter and dispatched ships 10 times to various places in Thailand and the Indochina Peninsula, including Siam, Pattani, Cochinchina, Cambodia, and Tonkin, to engage in trade. After the Dutch trading post was opened in Hirado in 1609, he traveled back and forth between Edo and Hirado every year, helping with negotiations with the shogunate.
