Ryugatake [town] - Ryugatake
A former town occupying the southeastern part of Amakusa Kamishima in Amakusa County, Kumamoto Prefecture. It includes Hinoshima in the Yatsushiro Sea. Cultivated land on the coast is small, and many of the settlements are semi-agricultural, semi-fishing. The main settlements are coastal fishing villages and a base for motorized sailing ships. It belongs to Unzen-Amakusa National Park, and Mount Ryugataka (470m) offers excellent views. In March 2004, it merged with Oyano Town, Matsushima Town, and Himeto Town in Amakusa County to form Kamiamakusa City. 17.49 km2 . 5,357 people (2003).
