A province in the north of the northeast region of China. Its abbreviated name is Hei. It borders Russia across the Heilongjiang (Amur River) to the north and the Ussuri River to the east. Its capital is Harbin. The Little Hinggan Mountains is located in the center of the northern half, and the plains of the Songhua River and Nenjiang River basins stretch to the west, south, and east of the southern half. It is one of the coldest regions in China. It is home to many non-Han ethnic groups, including the Manchu, Korean, Hui, and Mongolian, as well as the Dahur, Sibo, Hezhen, Oroqen, and Evenki. It produces timber, fur (both in the Little Hinggan Mountains and the southern mountainous region), and medicinal materials, and the Songnen Plain in particular is a major grain-producing area for wheat, soybeans, sorghum, and rice. Mineral products include gold (Han River, Huma, Aihui, etc.), iron (Hecheng, Jixian), coal (Hegang, Jixi, Shuangyashan, etc.), and oil (Daqing). Industries such as chemicals, food, machinery, electrical appliances, and vehicles are thriving, centering around Harbin and Qiqihar. Transportation is provided by two international railway lines, Binzhou (Harbin - Manchury in Inner Mongolia) and Bin-Sui (Harbin - Suifenhe), as well as railway lines to Binbei, Qibei, Pingqi, Suijia, etc. Water transportation is also well developed, and roads have developed rapidly in recent years. 453,900 ^km2. 中国，東北地方北部の省。簡称は黒。北は黒竜江（アムール川），東はウスリー川を隔ててロシアに接する。省都はハルビン。北半の中央に小興安嶺があり，南半の西・南・東に松花江・嫩江(のんこう)流域の平野が広がる。中国最寒区の一つ。満族，朝鮮族，回族，モンゴル族をはじめ，ダフール族，シボ族，ホジェン族，オロチョン族，エベンキなどの非漢民族も多い。木材・毛皮（ともに小興安嶺，南部山岳地帯）・薬材を産し，特に松嫩平原は小麦・ダイズ・コーリャン・水稲の大穀倉地帯をなす。鉱産は金（漢河，呼瑪，愛輝など），鉄（河城，集賢），石炭（鶴崗，鶏西，双鴨山など），石油（大慶）等。ハルビン，チチハル一帯を中心に，化学，食品，機械，電気器具，車両等の工業が盛ん。交通は浜洲（ハルビン〜内モンゴルのマンチュリー），浜綏（ハルビン〜綏芬河(すいふんが)）の２国際鉄路をはじめ，浜北・斉北・平斉・綏佳等の諸鉄路があり，水運も発達，自動車道路も近年急速に発達した。45万3900km²。3811万人（2014）。
