Angular distance - Kakukyori

The distance between two points expressed in degrees. The angle ∠AOB that any two points A and B make for observer O is the angular distance. Generally, when the actual distance or length between two objects is far away and cannot be easily determined, such as with celestial bodies, the distance or length is expressed solely in angular distance, that is, in visual angles. Examples include the apparent diameter of the full moon or the sun being about 30 minutes, the length of the Big Dipper being about 25 degrees, and the angular distance between two stars in a double star system being measured in seconds.

角度で表した2点間の隔りのこと。任意の2点A、Bが観測者Oにおいてつくる角∠AOBが角距離である。一般に天体のように遠方にあって二つの間の実距離あるいは実長が容易にわからない場合には、その距離または長さはもっぱら角距離すなわち視角で表す。満月や太陽の見かけの直径は約30分、北斗七星の長さは約25度、二重星の二つの星の角距離を何秒などというのがその例である。
