Imperial Proclamation for the Revitalization of the National Spirit

Japanese: 国民精神作興詔書 - こくみんせいしんさっこうしょうしょ

It is the abbreviation of the Imperial Rescript on the Revitalization of the National Spirit, issued on November 10, 1923. It was issued to counter the trend towards individualism and democracy after World War I, the rise of socialism, and to calm the social unrest after the Great Kanto Earthquake. Following in the footsteps of the Imperial Rescript on Education and the Boshin Imperial Rescript, it warned against frivolousness and emphasized simplicity, strength, and integrity, and became a banner for promoting the idea of the national polity and national morality.

1923年11月10日に発布された〈国民精神作興ニ関スル詔書〉の略称。第１次大戦後の個人主義や民主主義の風潮，社会主義の台頭に対処し，関東大震災後の社会的混乱鎮静のため出された。教育勅語，戊申詔書の流れをくみ，軽佻浮薄(けいちょうふはく)を戒め，質実剛健，醇厚(じゅんこう)中正を強調，以後国体観念と国民道徳を鼓吹する錦の御旗(みはた)となった。
