National Nutrition Survey

National Nutrition Survey
Based on the Nutrition Improvement Act (enacted in 1952), this is a national survey conducted once a year to clarify the health status and nutritional intake of the nation's citizens. Planned and designed by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare, it is conducted on approximately 300 randomly selected districts (approximately 6,000 households, approximately 21,000 people). Physical condition surveys such as height, weight, and blood pressure are conducted by doctors and public health nurses in a group examination format, while dietitians visit each household to conduct interviews to determine food intake status. This provides information on the daily energy intake of each citizen, as well as the intake of each nutrient and salt. It also highlighted the increasing trend of skipping breakfast, and has contributed to improving the nation's eating habits by providing information for nutrition planning.
