[Vindhya Mountains in Hindu Mythology]
Once, the mountain god of Vindhya was jealous of the height of the Himalayas and asked the sun god Surya to revolve around him as he revolved around Mount Meru. When Surya refused, he raised his head and rose higher than the Himalayas to block the sunlight. So the gods asked the sage Agastya, Vindhya's teacher, to stop him. Agastya went to Vindhya and bowed before him, ordering him to open a road from north to south and back.
