A shite actor of the Kanze school of Noh. Born in Takamatsu, Kagawa Prefecture. The second son of Kojiro Yoshikawa. Entered the Nomura family at a young age, and at the request of Chuzaburo Hashioka, inherited the family line, becoming an apprentice to Kiyokado Kanze at the age of 23. Throughout his life, he maintained a rebellious spirit against the formalism and authoritarianism of Noh, and was known for his escapist style. His introverted acting was as deep as tarnished silver, and his sense of direction was outstanding. He had an extremely difficult voice, to the point where the chanting on stage could not be heard, but he had a unique sense of rhythm. He became a member of the Japan Art Academy in 1963 (Showa 38). His successors were Kyuma Hashioka and Hisatomo Hashioka (Jikan), both of whom had their own unique style of acting.
