Ekaterina Konstantinovna Breshko-Breshkovskaya
1844‐1934
A Russian female revolutionary and one of the founders of the Socialist Revolutionary Party. Daughter of a Polish nobleman from Chernigov Province. After leaving her liberal husband, she participated in the "Into the People" movement in 1874, was arrested the same year, and was imprisoned and exiled in Siberia until 1896. After her release, she worked with Gershuny to found the Socialist Revolutionary Party, and became a member of the party's Central Committee when it was founded in 1902. In 1907, she was arrested again and sent to Siberia. In 1917, she joined the right wing of the Socialist Revolutionary Party and opposed the October Revolution. In 1919, she attended the Ufa State Congress, which aimed to establish an anti-Bolshevik government, but when the All-Russian Provisional Government that was established there was taken over by Kolchak in a coup d'état, she was unable to stay and fled to the United States via Japan.
