Japanese: 国分[市] - こくぶ

An old city in the north of Kagoshima Bay, in the central eastern part of Kagoshima Prefecture. It was incorporated as a city in 1955. The central city was the capital of the ancient Osumi region, and Kokubunji Temple was located in the city center, making it the center of southern Kyushu. In the early modern period, the Shimazu clan built a castle town here. The Nippō Main Line runs through the city. Since the feudal era, it has been famous for producing Kokubun tobacco and vegetable seedlings, but with the development of the high-speed transportation network, major cutting-edge companies moved in in the 1980s, and in 1984 it was designated the Kokubun-Hayato Technopolis area, and in recent years industry has expanded significantly. In November 2005, it merged with the towns of Mizobe, Yokokawa, Makizono, Kirishima, Hayato, and Fukuyama in Aira County to become a city, Kirishima City. 122.51 ^km2 . Population: 53,330 (2003).

鹿児島県中東部，鹿児島湾北部の旧市。1955年市制。中心市街は古代大隅国府，国分寺が置かれて南九州の中心となり，近世，島津氏が城下町をつくった。日豊本線が通じる。藩政時代以来有名な国分タバコのほか野菜苗の産地であったが，高速交通網の整備とともに1980年代に大手の先端企業が進出し，1984年には国分隼人テクノポリス地域に指定され，近年は工業が大きく伸展。2005年11月，姶良郡溝辺町，横川町，牧園町，霧島町，隼人町，福山町と合併し市制，霧島市となる。122.51km²。５万3330人（2003）。
