Together with the granaria weevil, they are known as grain weevils and are major pests of cereals that are distributed widely around the world. They feed on the seeds of grasses such as rice, wheat, barley, and corn, as well as dried and processed foods such as dried potatoes, buckwheat, and biscuits. Adults are reddish brown to blackish brown with four reddish yellow stripes on their forewings. Body length is about 3.5 mm. Adults are active from late March to late October.
