This is a book in one volume, which is the 10th volume of the "Kojiki." The "Kojiki" has a preface that says it was written by Prince Shotoku, but it is considered a forgery created in the early Heian period. However, a part of the "Tenjin Honki" in volume 3, the "Tenson Honki" in volume 5, and this "Kuni no Miyatsuko Honki" are noteworthy for their unique biographies not found in any other documents. The "Kuni no Miyatsuko Honki" lists over 130 kuni no miyatsuko throughout the country, starting with Yamato kuni no miyatsuko, and briefly records the period when each was appointed as kuni no miyatsuko and the name of the first kuni no miyatsuko. Among them are some that record later kokushi such as Izumi, Settsu, Tango, and Mimasaka, and some that are confusing such as Musashi and Musashi, and Kaga and Kaga, but on the whole they are based on fairly reliable ancient traditions and are valuable sources for research into ancient history. Included in the "Shin-Tei Zoho Kokushi Taikei." [Hiromichi Mayuzumi] Source: Shogakukan Encyclopedia Nipponica About Encyclopedia Nipponica Information | Legend |
