Lacertilia

In Japan, what are commonly called skinks belong to the genus Eumeces , and six species are found in the genus, including the Japanese skink E. latisctatus (illustration) found in Hokkaido, Honshu, Shikoku, Kyushu and the surrounding islands, the Okada skink E. okadae found in the Izu Islands, the Okinawa skink E. marginatus found in the Ryukyu Islands, and the Barbarian skink E. barbouri found in the Ryukyu Islands.

…有鱗目トカゲ亜目スキンク(トカゲ)科Scincidaeに属する四肢の発達した爬虫類の総称で，とくに英名でskinkと呼ばれる。広義にはトカゲ亜目Lacertiliaに属する爬虫類を指し，英名でlizardと呼ばれ，上記のほかイグアナ，ヤモリ，カメレオン，カナヘビ，アガマなどの各科も含まれる。
