〘Noun〙 ("Choko" is a Japanese phono character. It is said to be related to the Go-on pronunciation of "chong", or to the Fujian or Korean pronunciation.) 1. A small ceramic or metal vessel into which sake is poured and drunk. A small sake cup that is open at the top and narrows at the bottom. While a lacquered cup is used formally, this is commonly used in conjunction with a warm sake bottle. Choko. Nozoki. *Haiku poems, Enkinshu (1666), vol. 1 "Hanami sake choku de mabaya rinji ume (Masashige)" 2. (Named after its similar shape to 1.) A small, deep ceramic vessel used for main meals. Used to hold sashimi, vinegared dishes, etc. [Otoko Juho-ki (Genroku 6th year) (1693)]

〘Noun〙① A mushroom of the Basidiomycete family. In the narrow sense it is limited to the Boletaceae family, but in the broad sense it also includes the Boletaceae family. Most are edible and grow on the ground in coniferous forests. The upper surface of the cap is yellowish brown, reddish brown or dark brown, while the underside is light yellowish brown with numerous small holes in a mesh pattern. It is 3 to 15 centimeters tall. Yamadoritake. Slimy iguchi. *Meigoki (1275) Vol. 8 "How about a grass-flattening iguchi? The answer is that a boar's lion's mouth is like a boar's mouth, isn't it?" ② A bamboo shoot that has grown long and then withers and turns black during the rainy season. Choco [Cup]

〘Noun〙① A variation of "choku (small sake cup)". ※Jinjyohon, Shunshoku Tatsumien (1833-35), Chapter 3 "I warmed up this hot water in a cute small sake cup, leaving a few cups to drink."② An abbreviation of "chokozai (small sake cup talent)". ※Humorhon, Tokaidochu Hizakurige (1802-09), Chapter 7 "What do you mean, it's a small sake cup. I'll take a look at it even if I'm late."

い‐ぐち ゐ‥【猪口】

〘名〙① 担子菌類のキノコ。狭義にはイグチ科に限定し、広義にはオニイグチタケ科をも含む。多くは食用とし、針葉樹林内の地上に生える。かさの表面は黄褐色、赤褐色または暗褐色、裏面は淡黄褐色で網目状に多数の小孔を有する。高さ三~一五センチメートル。やまどりたけ。ぬめりいぐち。※名語記(1275)八「くさひらのゐぐち如何。答猪のししのくひてくつるよし歟」② 筍(たけのこ)が伸びてから梅雨中などに立ち枯れして黒くなったもの。〔重訂本草綱目啓蒙(1847)〕

ちょこ【猪口】

〘名〙① 「ちょく(猪口)」の変化した語。※人情本・春色辰巳園(1833‐35)三「燗どうこの湯をかはいらしい猪口(チョコ)で、二三ばい残しててうしをつけ」② 「ちょこざい(猪口才)」の略。※滑稽本・東海道中膝栗毛(1802‐09)七「なにがとは、ちょこいふてじゃ。よふおもふても見さんせ」
