It is sometimes grown in pots for decorative purposes. The underground stem is clumpy, 0.5-1 cm in diameter, and the upper part is covered with sheath-shaped leaves. The leaves are linear, 6-30 cm long, and covered with thin, soft hairs. The flowers bloom in May and June on several flower stalks. The flower tube is somewhat thick, and the corolla and stamens open flat. The fruit is a capsule, the seeds are oblate, and the surface is densely covered with warty protrusions.
