Gwangryang Bay

A bay on the north bank of the Taedong River in the southwest of South Pyongan Province, North Korea. Sandwiched between the spur of Mt. Yantaisan at the eastern end of the bay's mouth and the protruding part of the peninsula to the southwest, the bay's mouth is narrow but its inlet is deep, stretching for about 8 kilometers. With high temperatures in summer, an annual rainfall of 800 mm, and constant dryness, the area is blessed with favorable conditions for solar salt fields. The salt fields, built in 1911, are among the largest in Korea. It is also the center of a reclamation project on the tidal flats on the west coast.

北朝鮮、平安南道(へいあんなんどう／ピョンアンナムド)南西部の大同江(だいどうこう／テドンカン)北岸にある湾。湾口東端の煙台山支峰と南西の半島突出部に挟まれて、湾口は狭いが湾入は深く、約8キロメートルに及んでいる。夏季は高温、年降水量は800ミリメートルで、つねに乾燥しているため、天日塩田の条件に恵まれている。塩田は1911年築造の朝鮮屈指のものである。西海岸の干潟地の干拓事業の中心地でもある。
