A Chinese writer and scholar of the Qing Dynasty. Born in Yanghu, Jiangsu Province. His pen name was Zi Cun and Jun Zhi. His pen name was Bei Jiang and he was known as Zhisheng Jushi. In 1790, he passed the Jinshi examination, and served as editor of the Hanlin Academy, head of the Shijingguan, and education administrator in Guizhou. In 1799, he was found guilty of lèse majesté for writing a letter criticizing politics and was exiled to Yili in Xinjiang, but was pardoned after 100 days and returned home. He later died in his hometown under the name Zhisheng Jushi. He was a famous poet from a young age, and was nicknamed "Hong Huang" along with his close friend Huang Jingren from the same town. He belonged to the "Yangxian Ci School" which traces its roots back to the Five Dynasties and Northern Song Dynasties. He was also skilled in tandem prose, and is considered one of the "Eight Great Masters of the Qing Dynasty" along with Yuan Mei and Kong Guangsen. He was also knowledgeable in classical Chinese, history, and geography, and compiled many prefecture journals. His works include "Spring and Autumn Annals: Zuo Zhuan Xu," "Gazetteer of the Border Regions of the Eastern Jin Dynasty," "Gazetteer of the Border Regions of the Sixteen Kingdoms," "Annotated Writings of the Six Classics," "Diary of Yili," and "Yiyan." His poetry collections include "Juan Shige Poems," "Fukitsu Xuan Poems," "Poems by Saishengsai and Poems by Yu," and "Poems by Beijiang."

中国，清の文学者，学者。江蘇省陽湖の人。字，稚存，君直。号，北江，更生居士。乾隆 55 (1790) 年進士に及第，翰林院編修，石経館収掌，貴州学政を歴任。嘉慶4 (99) 年政治を批判した上書で不敬罪となり新疆の伊犁 (イリ) に流されたが，100日で許され帰郷。その後更生居士と号し郷里で没した。若い頃から詩名が高く，同郷の親友黄景仁と「洪黄」と並称され，詞は五代，北宋を宗とする「陽羨 (ようせん) 詞派」に属した。駢文 (べんぶん) にも巧みで，袁枚 (えんばい) ，孔広森らとともに「清代八大家」の一人とされる。経学，歴史学，地理学にも詳しく，府県志を多く編纂。『春秋左伝詁』『東晋疆域志』『十六国疆域志』『六書転注説』『伊犁日記』『意言』などを『洪北江全集』に収めている。詩集『巻施閣詩』『付きつ (ふきつ) 軒詩』『更生斎詩・詩余』のほか『北江詩話』がある。
