Empress Komyo's Prayer Sutra - Komyo Kogogankyo

Japanese: 光明皇后願経 - こうみょうこうごうがんきょう

Three types of sutras (tripitaka) are known that Empress Komyo made a vow and had copied: the sutra dated May 1, 740, the sutra dated May 11, 743, and the Kunkyukan sutra dated January 11, 760. The sutra containing the Empress's vow dated May 1, 760 is often called the "Sutra of Empress Komyo's Vow," and is also sometimes called the "Twelve Years of Tenpyo Sutra" or "May 1st Sutra." The copying of this sutra began in 736, based on the sutra treatise brought from China by Genbo.

光明皇后が発願，写経させた一切経(大蔵経)で，天平12年(740)5月1日経，天平15年(743)5月11日経，天平宝字4年(760)正月11日発願の坤宮官一切経の3種が知られる。特にこのうちの天平12年5月1日の皇后の願文を持つ一切経を《光明皇后願経》と呼ぶことが多く，また《天平十二年経》あるいは《五月一日経》と呼ぶこともある。この一切経は，玄昉（げんぼう）が唐からもたらした経論を底本にして，736年に写経が始められた。
