A private railway with 7.6 km (1997) of track in Kobe City. It is a so-called third sector company established with investment from Kobe City and the relevant railways with the aim of connecting the previously isolated terminal stations of Hankyu Railway, Hanshin Electric Railway, Sanyo Electric Railway, and Kobe Electric Railway with underground lines. Founded in 1958, it opened the Tozai Line (standard gauge) between Nishidai and Sannomiya and between Kosoku Kobe and Motomachi in 1968, and the Namboku Line (1067 mm gauge) between Minatogawa and Shinkaichi. 神戸市内に7.6km(1997)の路線を有する民営鉄道。それまで孤立していた阪急電鉄,阪神電気鉄道,山陽電気鉄道および神戸電鉄の各終端駅を地下線で結び合わせることを目的に,神戸市と関係各鉄道などが出資して作った,いわゆる第三セクター方式の株式会社である。1958年に創立され,68年に西代(にしだい)~三宮間および高速神戸~元町間の東西線(標準軌間)と湊川~新開地間の南北線(1067mm軌間)が開通した。
