Muhtar Omarhanovich Auezov / Muhtar Omarhanovich Auezov

A writer and scholar from the Republic of Kazakhstan (Kazakhstan). In addition to many novels and plays dealing with the process of national liberation and the construction of collective farms, he has also written research papers on Kazakh and Kyrgyz folklore, and translated works by Gogol and Shakespeare into Kazakh. His epic novels, Abai (1942-1947) in two volumes and its sequel Abai's Way (1952-1956) in two volumes, lyrical portrayals of the hardships of nomads who awaken to the struggle against the oppression of Tsarist Russia, and the life of the Kazakh folk poet and enlightener Abai Kunambayev, for which he received the Lenin Prize in 1959.

カザフ（カザフスタン）共和国の作家、学者。民族の解放の過程とコルホーズ建設を扱った多くの小説や戯曲のほか、カザフとキルギスの民間伝承の研究論文、ゴーゴリ、シェークスピアのカザフ語訳がある。叙事詩的長編小説『アバイ』2巻（1942～1947）と続編『アバイの道』2巻（1952～1956）は、帝政ロシアの圧政に対する闘争に目覚める遊牧民の苦しい生活と、カザフの民衆詩人、啓蒙(けいもう)家アバイ・クナンバーエフの生涯を叙情的な筆で描きあげ、1959年度レーニン賞を得た。
