Kocho New System - Kocho New System

Japanese:
Kocho New System - Kocho New System
The New Law on the Court Nobles, consisting of 41 articles, was enacted in 1263 (the third year of the Kocho era) during the reign of Emperor Kameyama and Emperor Gosaga. A second New Law on the Court Nobles consisting of 21 articles was also enacted in 1261 (the first year of the Kocho era), but the term generally refers to the former. Many parts were inherited from the previous law, but it is noteworthy for its attempt to restore order at court by stipulating details such as appointments and conferrals of titles, as well as for its clauses on litigation that are thought to have been in opposition to the shogunate. The specific and detailed provisions influenced the later New Law on the Court Nobles and Court Noble Laws. → New Law on the Hogen era/New Law on the Kenkyu era/New Law on the Kanki era
