Japanese: ジャコウジカ(麝香鹿) - ジャコウジカ(英語表記)musk‐deer
Musk deer (musk deer)
It has primitive characteristics of the extant Musk Deer family, and both sexes lack horns. Instead, the upper canines of males develop into fangs. Males also have musk glands on their lower abdomen, and use these secretions and feces to periodically mark their territory. Body length is about 90 cm, tail length is 5 cm, and body weight is 9 to 11 kg. Body color ranges from yellowish gray to dark brown. The Siberian Musk Deer ( Moschus moschiferus ) and the Pygmy Musk Deer (M. berezovskii) , which are found from Central Asia to China and the Korean Peninsula, live in forests at altitudes of 1,500 to 3,000 meters, while the Mountain Musk Deer (M. chrysogaster ) of the Himalayas and Tibet live above the tree line.
