?-1010 A politician of Goryeo, Korea. In 1009 (the 12th year of the reign of Mujong), when Kim Chiyang, who was in league with Mujong's mother, Empress Cheonchu, tried to seize the throne, Gangjo, the inspector of Seobukmyeon, led 5,000 troops to the capital, deposed Mujong, and killed Kim Chiyang and his son. Hyeonjong was supported in his place, and Mujong was killed on the way to Chungju. The following year, when the Khitan invaded Goryeo on the pretext of the so-called "Gangjo Incident," Gangjo led 300,000 troops to fight back, but was eventually captured and killed.
