An edible mushroom of the Iguodactylaceae family native to Japan. Its cap is 10-20cm in diameter, funnel-shaped, and has a deep depression in the center. Its surface has pronounced scales, and is light reddish brown, then dark brown, and black when dry. Its Japanese name was chosen to resemble the fur of an animal. In autumn, it grows in rows on the ground in scrub forests. When dry, it gives off a unique fragrance. It is delicious. Raw koutake rice is cooked with koutake, but the dried version is used in vegetarian cuisine. Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
