There are four lines of Prince Kazurahara, descendants of the princes given the surname by Emperor Kanmu (later split into Prince Takamune and Prince Takamochio), Prince Kaya, Prince Manda, and Prince Nakano, and Prince Takamochi's descendants flourished as samurai. The three generations of the Ise Heishi, Masamori, Tadamori, and Kiyomori, built the heyday of the Heike clan, and after their downfall, only the descendants of Yorimori remained as court aristocrats. The clans of the eastern provinces, such as the Hojo, Miura, Wada, Kajiwara, Toi, Hatakeyama, Chiba, and Kawagoe, are also descendants of the Heike clan, but since the end of the Heian period they had close ties with the Minamoto clan and played an active role at the heart of the Kamakura shogunate as vassals.
