...The Deccan Plateau stretches behind it, about 300 km wide in the north and 150 km wide in the south, to the western state border. It is a gently undulating peneplain plateau with an elevation of 300-600 m, with hills called kondas, crowned by huge granite boulders, rising here and there. The central part is covered with poor red soil made from weathered granite, but the northern end and the valley floor plains of the various rivers are covered with the black soil of the Deccan Trap.
