Hou Jing Rebellion

Japanese: 侯景の乱 - こうけいのらん

In August 548 (the second year of the Taiqing era) during the reign of Emperor Wu of the Southern Liang Dynasty in China, Hou Jing, governor of Nanyu Prefecture, started a rebellion. Hou Jing was a descendant of the Jie tribe and a general who had surrendered from the Eastern Wei Dynasty. Rebel forces immediately attacked the capital of Jiankang (Nanjing) from Shouchun (Shou County, Anhui Province), and in March of the following year, the palace fell after several months of siege. In November 551, Hou Jing ascended to the throne and named the country Han, but was defeated and killed by the combined forces of Wang Sengbian and Chen Baxian. This rebellion not only shattered the 50-year dream of peace under Emperor Wu of Liang, but also dealt a devastating blow to society in Jiangnan at all levels.

中国，南朝梁の武帝治下の548年(太清2)8月，南予州刺史の侯景がおこした反乱。侯景は羯族（かつぞく）の出身，東魏からの投降将軍であった。反乱軍は寿春(安徽省寿県)からただちに都の建康(南京)を突き，翌年3月，数ヵ月にわたる籠城のすえ宮城は陥落。551年11月に侯景は即位して国号を漢と定めたが，王僧弁と陳霸先の連合軍の攻撃をうけて敗死した。この乱によって，50年におよんだ梁の武帝時代の平和の夢がやぶられただけでなく，江南の社会は上下をあげて壊滅的な打撃をこうむった。
