Terfine

...The prosperity of coastal cities such as Tangier, Ceuta, Oran, Algiers, Bijaya, Tunis, and Tripoli, and inland cities such as Marrakech, Fes, Tlemcen, and Cairouan, is evident from their function as a junction between the east-west route, so to speak, via the Mediterranean Sea, and the north-south route, which served as an entrance and exit point for trans-Saharan trade. Archaeological excavations have revealed the Paleolithic site of Terfine, which is said to date back 500,000 years, and the Mesolithic to Neolithic sites of the Kapsa culture (El Makta, etc.). The latter is thought to be of the same lineage as Tassili n'Ajjer in the Sahara Desert, and was carried out by a group of people who migrated from Asia Minor.
