Kenmu Annual Events

A book of annual events held by the Imperial Court during the Northern and Southern Courts period. It consists of three volumes and was written by Emperor Godaigo. It is also known by other names such as "Kana Annual Events" and "Annual Official Affairs Record." It is written in kana and covers various events from the New Year's "four directions worship" and "offering medicine" to the December "Tsuina." It only contains the order of events and does not touch on the origins or history of the events. This book was probably created for the practical purpose of serving as a guide for carrying out court ceremonies during the Kenmu Restoration.

南北朝時代の朝廷の年中行事書。3巻があり、後醍醐(ごだいご)天皇の作。『仮名(かな)年中行事』『年中公事記(くじき)』などの別名もある。正月の「四方拝」「御薬(みやく)を供(くう)す」から、12月の「追儺(ついな)」に至る諸行事について仮名で書かれている。内容は式次第のみで、行事の起源来歴には触れていない。おそらく本書は、建武新政期における朝儀の執行の手引という実践的目的のために作成されたものであろう。
